Celebrating and Conserving Migratory Birds

On May 5, 2026, bird enthusiasts in Baraboo, Wisconsin were treated to "Celebrating and Conserving Migratory Birds", a program observing 2026 World Migratory Bird Day. The program, given at the Carnegie-Schadde Memorial Public Library, was presented by Maia Persche, Todd Persche, and Lisa Hartman. Maia Persche and Lisa Harman are wildlife biologists who work with the Baraboo Hills Ecology Research Collective. Todd Persche is a retired Executive Director of the Baraboo Range Preservation Association. Together, they describe the current threats to migratory birds, the present state of conservation efforts for these birds, and ways that residents, local groups, and governments can help ensure safe passage and sustainable destinations for migrating birds.

The program was co-sponsored by local climate action nonprofit Powered Up Baraboo and the Carnegie-Schadde Memorial Public Library.
