Celebrating and Conserving Migratory Birds

On Tuesday, May 5 at 6 pm, the public is invited to the auditorium at Carnegie-Schadde Memorial Public Library for a free presentation about how the remarkable migrations of birds connect our own backyards to ecosystems across the hemisphere. The program, “Celebrating And Conserving Migratory Birds”, will be presented by three local figures in wildlife conservation, Maia Persche, Todd Persche, and Lisa Hartman.

Maia Persche is a wildlife ecologist who works in Wisconsin and in the Central Asian Flyway. Her PhD research was focused on oak woodland restoration and native biodiversity. She is part of the Baraboo Hills Ecology Research Collective.

Todd Persche is the recently retired executive director of Baraboo Range Preservation Association (BRPA), a local land trust working in the Baraboo Bluffs. BRPA initially brought the Bird City program to Baraboo some ten years ago during Todd’s tenure.

Lisa Hartman is a wildlife biologist and educator, living in Leland, WI and working with multi-lingual students and outdoor education at Tower Rock Elementary School.  She specializes in Turkey Vulture research and is part of the Baraboo Hills Ecology Research Collective.

This program is co-sponsored by Powered Up Baraboo (PUB) and Carnegie-Schadde Memorial Public Library to coincide with World Migratory Bird Month.
